Week 13

Today I am 13 weeks and 5 days along. It's odd - some days I really feel like I am showing....then other days not so much. I definetly look chubby, but not obviously pregnant. I am feeling great though! This has been easy so far. I was nauseated for about 4 weeks or so, but that is getting better now. There are still some foods that I can't really eat, but I'm sure that will pass. The most disappointing this of all is that I haven't been cooking....I just don't have it in me to do it. And then when I do cook, by the time I get done I can't eat any of it. I am really hoping this will pass - I miss cooking!!

Tony is living up in the mountains. I miss him so much!! I know I'm being extra emotional, but I just cry and cry when he leaves to go back on Sundays. It's awful! I'm glad he's getting it out of the way now though, and then he'll be that much closer to being done.

The good thing is that I have been really busy with my own classes, so I haven't had time to dwell on Tony being gone. I am getting so close!! This last capstone class if really demanding, but I just keep thinking this is it! And I'll have my degree and be done with school for a while.

6 more weeks until we find out the sex (hopefully)! Everyone said that pregnancy seems to go by quickly and they were right. I'm so eager for things to slow down in life so that I can just focus on enjoying the pregnancy and getting ready for the baby!

Look at what I'm growing!!

THIS:

OH YEAH.....AND THIS:

That's right  - you are looking at the first picture of our baby!! Tony and I could not be more thrilled. I am 12 weeks and 4 days today. So far everything looks wonderful. I am due around Christmas. This is the most amazing thing that has every happened to us! It's been kind of hard to keep it a secret because we have known for a couple of months, but we just wanted to wait and make sure that everything looked ok. I have just started showing, really showing this past week.

Orlando

The day after we got back from Minnesota I had to fly to Orlando. I had a conference for work. It was originally supposed to be in Nashville, but was moved to FL because of the flooding. I was really really looking forward to Nashville, so I was kind of disappointed that we were going to Orlando. But it was great! Much better than I thought it was going to be.
The conference was really good - and I got to catch up with an old friend and make a new friend! Here is a picture of me, Sarah, and Emily at Universal.

On Friday we went over to Cocoa Beach for a little while. It wasn't as nice as I thought it would be, but still, it was a beach and I had a nice time just visiting with friends.

Minnesota weekend

So Tony and I drove to MN for the Memorial Day weekend. We left Thursday around 4pm and got to Duluth the next morning around 9am. Tony drove through the night and I slept on and off. We rested for a while then went down to Park Point to go to the beach (Lake Superior). I cannot explain my love for Lake Superior. From the moment that we make that turn on I-35 and the lake comes into view my heart speeds up. It's just so beautiful. It never ceases to take my breath away.

A huge ship (maybe called a Laker?) coming under the suspension bridge. It's fun to see the ship traffic.

That night we went out to some friends house for a party. I have a video of Tony and Daniel jamming together that I'll try to figure out how to load it.

Saturday we drove down to Minneapolis and went to the Twins game. The stadium was really nice and clean. It's right in downtown Minneapolis so the stadium is more vertical than others I have been to. Unfortunetly it was really hot that afternoon and our seats were right in the sun. We only stayed for 6 innings and then  had to leave. After that we went down to Lake Harriet and Lake Calhoun though and I got to see where Tony's grandmother used to live. What a beautiful afternoon we had with Tony's parents and Daniel.

This is Joe stretching.....I know you can't see his face but it's him.
Only in Minnesota can you get Walleye at the game.

We left on Sunday around noon and drove to Nebraska. We didn't drive through the night that day (thank goodness) so we got back Monday mid afternoon.

It was definetly tiring and fast and furious - but we always have such a wonderful time in Minnesota and it's always worth it.

Comings and Goings

Life's been same old same old. Too much to do, not enough time. I finally got registered for summer school - so I'm on track to be done in August! I'm glad but I've had so much drama surrounding the whole school thing that I am just ready for it to be over.
We did go see Robin Hood last weekend!! It was AWESOME!! So much better than I thought and I highly recommend it! I loved the one with Kevin Costner so I wasn't sure how this one would hold up - but it was great!
This week I'm looking forward to school being over and on Thursday we are going to MN. Tony's dad got us tickets to a TWINS game on Saturday night - we are really excited to go to the game, especially in the new stadium. Ok, let's be honest - I get to see Joe Mauer and that's always a good thing.

Jesse's visit (and why I'm a bad friend for not posting about it sooner!)

Jesse came to visit us the last weekend in April. I can't believe I haven't posted about it yet....I've been meaning to, but.....I just haven't.

It was such a great weekend!! I really needed to see an old friend. We took a painting class on Friday night which was fun - I don't know why what I saw in my head didn't transfer to my canvas though. Jesse and Tony's looked GREAT and they will definitely be going on the wall. The class was fun though and I really like the concept of it.

Saturday we went to Eldorado State Park. We wanted to show Jesse one of our favorite places and show her all the rock climbers. Serious serious serious rock climbers. Then we drove up to Estes and went to RMNP. This is where her mind was blown - exactly what I was hoping would happen! There was still so much snow on the ground and it snowed on us while we were driving around too.

It was a great weekend and I'm so very glad that Jesse flew out here to see us. It meant more than we can say.

Go here to see what Jesse thought of our rocky state.

Birthdays

This past week I turned 29 years old. 29. It's kind of hard for me to wrap my mind around. Just the fact that this is the last year of my 20's. I can say that my 20's have flown by - the years have been good, full of love and laughter - a very good decade for me.
I am sitting here trying to think of where I have been for each birthday...and what I was doing.
Well, on my 20th birthday Tony proposed to me.....so by my 21st birthday I was married. I'm pretty sure that we went out for Cinco de Mayo at a bar that year. The next ones are kind of a blur....but I remember my 25th, that was in Maryland and a bunch of friends came over to the condo to celebrate. That is when they realized how far away I lived from everyone else and why I didn't invite people over more often.
My 26th birthday - Heather and Gary, Sean and Bern, Jen and Adam, and Craig came down to Federal Hill to go bar hoping for this birthday. That night was so much fun!! Great memories, even if the next morning I was sore and bruised up. :)
All in all, I'm most thankful that I have gotten to spend every birthday of my 20's with my sweet husband.

Off the radar

I've wanted to post something...anything...for a couple of weeks, but I feel in turmoil right now and can't think of anything good. So I direct you to Trisha's blog to look at some really hot pics of Joe Mauer...and a little tid bit of Trisha and I's meeting in Las Cruces.

In need of intervention

I'm in serious need of some prayer. The get down on your knees kind. No one is sick, everyone is fine - I'm just going through a really stressful time right now - disillusioned with people and so hurt I can't even find anger.
So for any of you that read this - say a little prayer for me. Thanks.

Home Brewin'

So Tony has started home brewing. In the past 6 months or so our appreciation of beer has grown (maybe that's why I can't lose my gut?) and what better way to expand on that than to start brewing your own? Friday he bought all the equipment and yesterday our house smelled incredible!! It's going to take a few weeks for us to try our first batch - but it's so exciting! This definitely is a hobby that is going to take patience.
Now we have to start thinking of names for the micro-brew. Any suggestions from all you creative people out there?

Hot Yoga

So I've been going to Core Power for a few weeks now. This was the first experience for me with Hot Yoga - and I LOVE IT!! I can't make it as often as I would like to during the week, but it's enough. I feel incredible while I'm doing it and I'm already seeing results in my practice. Thursday night and Friday night were the best ones yet! Today was good as well, but not quite as intense of a session. But today I did something I haven't been able to do previously - a crow - a I held it! I was so proud of myself that I wanted to jump up and down squealing, but I contained myself. Seeing results is what makes me want to do it more and more. Maybe I can be a yogi!!!

Slowing down long enough to listen.....

When I was in NM the other weekend, my mom bought me "Having a Mary Heart in a Martha World" by Joanna Weaver. I had seen reviews of this book before and thought it looked interesting.

I am only a bit into it so far, but I am really liking it. The book is based on two sisters, Mary and Martha, from the book of Luke. It explores the differences between these two sisters and the changes that both made.

So often I feel like I am burning the candle at both ends, with all my obligations falling short. What I need to realize is that I put these obligations on myself, no one expects more of me than me. More times that not I am holding myself to an unobtainable standard then feel...disappointed in myself.

I need to take time to nurture my relationship with God and to truly give time to listen to HIS call. It is THE most important relationship in my life, and I need to honor it as such. My good deeds are never going to be good enough....they are just that - deeds. Rushing around trying to put 30 hours in a 24 hour day isn't going to work, and it's going to result in burn out.

I guess what I'm looking for is to stop being too busy to listen to my Savior. Only I can do this, only I can prioritize my life. I need to stop comparing EVERYTHING and just start enjoying. I am so thankful for ALL the blessings in my life, they are more abundant than I can recount. However, I know I will find much more in THIS relationship than in the ACTS I hold so dearly now.

I'm trying to read a chapter a night....but, true to my nature, sometimes I fall asleep the minute my head hits the pillow. So it might take a while, but I'll give you the full review when I'm done. And hopefully I'll have some positive changes to report as well!

Botanical Garden - Denver

On Saturday the whole family went to the Botanical Gardens - thank you so much Amy for the recommendation! It was lovely and I can just imagine how much more beautiful it is going to look in a few weeks when everything is in bloom.
We spent a few hours there, but I think it would be a lovely place to spend the whole day. Take a book and just sit amongst the gardens and read.
Here are some pictures from the day.

A surprise party!

So last Friday was Tony's 30th birthday! 30?!? Where has the time gone? So I planned a surprise party for him and it went off so well!! I wish I could have taken a picture of his face - it was enough to make me cry! The biggest surprise of all? Tony's parents drove down and arrived Friday afternoon. Tony was completely shocked....I don't think he would have been any more shocked if Godzilla was standing in our kitchen. Mandy and the kids helped out by sitting on the stairs when Tony walked in they shouted surprise! Then I took him to the kitchen where his family jumped out. It was so wonderful!!! I'm so glad that they were able to make the LONG drive down!
Justin arrived about 10 minutes after Tony got home and Amy and Brian arrived later. It was a wonderful party and Tony said it was his best birthday ever...isn't that a wonderful sentiment to say about the big 3-0?
Tony said that he thought I had something up my sleeve, that perhaps I was going to have a party for him and maybe Justin was going to drive down and Michael and Mandy would be here with the kiddos - but he was not expecting his parents and Danny! He said I was cleaning way too much during the week for nothing to be planned.
I can't believe I kept it a secret though - that was the hardest part....and I know that this birthday is going to be hard to beat next year.
So here's to a wonderful 30th year to my wonderful, ever evolving husband. May it be the best year yet!

Didn't this picture turn out wonderful? I just love it!

This picture is probably my favorite of the evening. I love how happy everyone looks!

Early Birthday Present

Tony and I got tickets to go see the Eagles!!! What - you ask? The Eagles? As in the one of the greatest bands of all time?
Yes - the very ones!!
It is my birthday present and we are going to see them on May 20th! So excited!!
They are one of my favorite bands and we have so many great memories to their songs, mostly from our road trips. Hotel California is one of the songs on the soundtrack of my life.
We haven't been to a concert in quite a while, and in all this time we've been together we've never been to a big venue concert together, we usually just stick to the smaller name bands.
And on another note, this post makes my 200th post. I kind of thought I would have been past that by now, since it's been quite a few years since I've been blogging. Maybe I can make it to 300 this year? We'll see!

My meditations

Gardening is therapy for me. I love it. I have always had plants around and now that we have a big back yard, I am able to garden like I have always wanted to. I grew up around it, my mom, my grandparents, everyone always had a great garden so we had tasty treats all summer long.
Maybe I am over eager, but I planted my hardy seeds today. I did sugar snap peas, arugula, and lettuce. I think they have a really good chance of making it. This year I am going to do all things lettuce a bit differently though - I am going to plant at 2 week intervals so that I don't have a huge heap of leafy goodness all at once. I want to space it out a bit. So I have 2 rows of arugula right now and 1 row of lettuce.
I also discovered Jiffy greenhouses - AWESOME! They are these plastic boxes with pods inside them. You expand the pods by adding water, then you can plant seeds in them. It's a great way to start your sowing early. I'm so excited to see if they work!!
I also had to treat my houseplants today because we have (gross!!) fungus gnats!! We have had them for quite a while, but I finally sat down and did some research to see what they truly were. Yuck! They have already killed 2 of my plants, and were starting on a third. So now I have to treat all my houseplants (even the ones that weren't sick) for 3 weeks, hoping to kill them off. I hate them! They are super annoying and look just like fruit flies, only bigger. I repotted my infested spider plant and I'm hoping it will pull through.

Ahh, spring. Just being outside today was enough to get me through the whole week.

Spring Break in New Mexico

I started writing this last week, but didn't have time to finish.
For the first time in our entire college career, Tony and I took a spring break trip. During undergrad we never took a trip first of all because we didn't have the money, and secondly, because everyone else left we were always able to pick up more hours at our jobs.
We were lucky that our spring breaks were at the same time this year, so we decided to take advantage of it.We first went down to Las Cruces to stay with Amy. It was a 10 hour drive, but it really wasn't bad! We got there on Saturday night and went to High Desert, where we met up with Patrick and LeeAnn. High Desert is a micro brewery that we frequented when we lived in LC. It was great - although extremely crowded. It was just so nice #1) to be with Amy again #2) to catch up with P & L.
Las Cruces has grown so much! We hadn't been back in about 5 years - and we were pretty surprised at the size, but the mountains were just as beautiful as we had remembered. On Sunday I went to Mesilla and met Trisha for coffee. This sounds like it's not a big deal - but it is!!!! We have been friends for years now, through the internet, so it was great to finally meet in person! We could have talked for hours!
My folks drove down on Sunday and we went to eat at La Posta - mmmmmmmmm, La Posta. Best sour cream enchiladas ever!! Then we roamed around the square for a little while and just got to spend the whole day together as a family. It was beautiful.
It also made us realize how much we miss New Mexico. I mean, the whole trip did that, but especially those first couple of days. We have such fond memories of Las Cruces...and I know that you always forget the bad stuff and only remember the good times. When we left NM we were so ready to get out!!! Now our memories are fonder and we realize how special New Mexico is. But who knows what the future holds for us. Perhaps we will end up back there.
The next morning we drove up to the Gila Wilderness. The drive was hard, as the road between Hillsboro and Silver City is long and winding. Plus we encountered a snow storm.
We had been up to the Gila before to go camping when we lived in Cruces, but never up to the Cliff Dwellings. I had booked us a night at the Wilderness Lodge B&B, just 4 miles from the Dwellings. Well, here is where I made a small mistake - I hadn't looked at where the B&B was exactly, and I thought it was in Gila, a town west of Silver. We got to Silver around 1 and figured we didn't have enough time to make it up to the Cliff Dwellings, then drive back to the B&B before night fall. So we went on a hike to some petroglyphs outside of Silver City. Then went to dinner. Then I realized the B&B was next to the Cliff Dwellings!! Ahh!! We could have been up there hiking the entire time! Oh well....

The lodge was beautiful! It is an old converted school house that was moved from Hurley up the mountain. Now this is another curvy road and I cannot imagine moving a building up it. But it was a really pretty drive. We stayed on the second floor which had 5 bedrooms and a shared bathroom. I know some of you are going to cringe at this, but we have done it a few times in the past and it usually saves you around $30. It is not bad at all (at least in our experience). I mean, if you are going to stay at a B&B full of people, you are not going to have the most privacy in the world anyways.
I love it up in the Gila's. It's calm and beautiful. The Lodge had natural hot springs in the front yard, so we got in those for a while, then just spent the evening relaxing and reading. The other people staying there were wonderfully nice, as well as the inn keeper. Everyone was really friendly and in the morning at breakfast everyone just sat around talking. There was just a really nice feeling up there, that matched our personalities. How can I put this? If you are not from NM it's hard to understand the diversity of this state. There are lots of free spirits. Hippies started coming in the 60's. A lot of people moved to Western NM for the remoteness and the ability to live on very little. It is still apparent in the area. Especially up where we were. People are laid back and are just happy to share what they have. Such openness. For example, the hot springs at the lodge had just a small wall that seperate the pools from the front of the house. And the house rules were that if you forgot your swimsuit - no biggie- no one minds if you want to get in au natural.
The next morning we hiked to the Cliff Dwellings and took some great pictures. It's amazing to think that these caves were inhibited so many many years ago (1200's) and are still standing there.
From the Gila we drove up to Jemez (pronounced Haymous) Springs. It was a long day because of all the driving. But we made it up there before dark and got checked into the Jemez Mountain Inn. The owners were so wonderfully kind. Once again, hippies of the working sort that had been going up to Jemez Springs for years and years before deciding to buy the Inn. They were so warm and gracious and made us immediately feel welcome. There was a resturant/bar right across the street from the Inn and we were very thankful for it. Jemez Springs is a tiny little town and everything else was closed. By everything else, I mean the two other places to eat. The bar was full of locals and had very good food.
On our way out of town we stopped at Soda Dam.
This was an unexpected treat! It's a natural dam that was formed over thousands of years from the mineral deposits brought to the surface from the hot springs underlying the area. The smell of sulfur was very strong and apparently there are places among the river were you can put one hand in really cold water and the other in steaming hot water,  but we didn't find that.
We continued driving up Hwy. 4 on our way to Bandelier National Monument. I had read about some natural hot springs that were off of the highway, back up in the mountains. All I knew was that the trail head was located between mile marker 24 and 25 and that there would be a place to park. It also said not to leave any valuables in your car...isn't that disappointing that people are so untrustworthy? So we stopped between the mile markers and found the trailhead. The hike was only 1 mile to the springs. But it was a difficult hike for about 1/2 mile of it. At one point I was almost on all fours trying to scramble up the unkempt trail. But we made it up to the Springs. It was a shame how people had littered the area though- that always pisses us off! It's just so disrespectful. Plus there were clothes lying around - and that's just weird. Did people hike down naked?
So I got in (of course - modesty doesn't have any part of my life), but Tony decided to hike around and take pics. The water wasn't overly warm, but it was nice. I went further back in the small cave where the source was and the water was much warmer. I only stayed in for about 10 minutes, then we hiked back down. What a way to start off your day in healing hot springs.
Bandelier was really crowded - I guess it was a lot of families' spring break. So that took from it somewhat - it just seemed commercialized. But we still got in some really good hiking. At one point you can go up 2 30 foot ladders to some upper dwellings. If you at all have a fear of heights this would be a terrible idea. The cliff dwellings were very cool, but I can say we have had our fill of them for a while.
We took off from there and went to Chimayo to spend our last night in NM. The Inn there was the nicest of all 3. The grounds were beautiful and once again, everyone was so friendly! We spent the evening relaxing in the hot tub and reading. The next morning they had an amazing breakfast - green chile souffle! We went to the Santuario de Chimayo, a place I have wanted to visit for so long. It's an amazing Catholic church. Click on the link to find out more about it and the healing dirt.
It was a great vacation and I'm so glad that we went. It was relaxing and just what I needed - to get away from work and school and daily stresses. Tony took a lot more pictures on the DSL, but they are uploaded on his computer, so once I get around to putting them on mine I will upload some.

Spring, you teaser

It's still snowing! It started snowing yesterday evening around 5:30 and it hasn't stopped since. I can't really tell how much we have because it's super wet snow, but last night at 10 we had about 10 inches. Our Maple tree had already budded out, but I'm glad that our apple tree is still dormant. It's definitely not as big as our October storm, but it's a lot. It is really beautiful, but I'm so ready for spring! Hopefully this is the last of it!

He did it!! He did it!

So Joe signed with the Twins! Yes!!! I know I'm posting this a little late, but I've been on hiatus, and it's been good times (which I'll post about later).
But I'm just stoked that he signed and now all worries can be set aside. 8 year $184M - I am SHOCKED! I never dreamed the Twiny-Twins would sign an agreement for that much. I believe it's the 3rd largest contract is MLB history! I'm so glad he is staying in MN. I have to believe it's much more than just the money as to why he stayed. And I can continue wearing my TC Mauer shirts and cheering for him. I'm relieved that I don't have to spend the whole season in anticipation, as many of the Twins fans feel.
